Dump Truck Driver Killed After Crashing Into Southern Tier Home

A large mining dump truck has crashed into the side of a house, causing significant damage to the structure.

State Police are still trying to determine why the driver of a dump truck crashed into a home in the Southern Tier last Friday afternoon.

The 29-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Three people were inside the Old Plank Road home in the Broome County town of Sanford when the crash occurred just after 3 p.m. A 10-year-old boy was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for injuries. A 22-year-old man was not injured and a 40-year-old woman was treated by EMS at the scene.

Members from Troop C Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit all responded to the scene. Troopers were assisted on the scene by Deposit Fire and Eastern Broom EMS.
