Herkimer County State Police say a car collided with an Amish buggy Friday morning in the town of Schuyler, sending one person to the hospital.

Authorities report that around 7:58 a.m., 45-year-old Matthew Walker of Remsen was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Cosby Manor Road when he tried to pass a horse-drawn buggy too closely. The collision caused both occupants of the buggy to be ejected.

The buggy’s occupants were identified as 40-year-old Moses Swartzentruber of Poland, who was uninjured, and 30-year-old Andy Troyer of Poland, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital. The horse was unharmed.

Walker was not injured but was issued multiple traffic citations, including no license, aggravated unlicensed operation, unsafe passing, and speeding. The investigation is ongoing.
