The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a jail inmate on drug-related charges.

Authorities say 30-year-old Anthony Williams, who is already incarcerated at the Chemung County Jail, was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st Degree, a Class D felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident on October 8, 2025, when deputies discovered Williams in possession of an unknown substance during a jail search. The Criminal Investigation Division analyzed the substance and determined it was fentanyl.

Williams remains in custody at the Chemung County Jail on an unrelated charge. He is scheduled to be arraigned in City of Elmira Court at a later date.
