Vehicles are backed up in traffic, their brake lights glowing, illustrating the challenges of holiday travel.

If you plan to travel this holiday weekend, you’re not alone.

Elizabeth Carey with AAA says they’re expecting a record breaking number of travelers.

When you take a look at the numbers this year AAA expects nearly 51-million people to be travelling for the independence day holiday,” Carey said. “51-million people is a record breaker.”

AAA is basing its estimate on the Thursday-Tuesday travel period.

The previous record was set in 2019 when 49-million Americans took the road and sky for the holiday.
