70 Tickets Issued in Onondaga Co. Operation Hard Hat Detail

In just over four hours, state police in Onondaga County issued 70 tickets Monday as part of an Operation Hard Hat detail on State Route 690 in VanBuren.

Operation Hard Hat details see a trooper dressed as a construction worker in a work zone observing motorists. They then report any potential violations to troopers waiting outside the work zone.

Tickets include:

  • 4 – Speeding
  • 40 – Move Over Law
  • 14 – Cellphone
  • 5 – No Seatbelt
  • 7 – other

One person was ticketed for traveling 91 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Speeding fines are doubled in work zones, and two or more speeding violations in a work zone can result in a suspended license.
