Authorities say a reported bomb threat and hostage situation in Schuyler County on Monday night turned out to be false, but the investigation remains ongoing.
According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call around 6:20 p.m. reporting a bomb threat involving hostages at a residence on County Road 11 in Alpine. Deputies responded along with the New York State Police and the Watkins Glen Police Department. Law enforcement quickly established a perimeter around the area, and as a precaution, several nearby residents were asked to leave their homes for their safety.
The New York State Police Explosives Unit was also called to the scene. After investigating, authorities determined there was no threat of explosives in the area.
