Unemployment Holds Steady in the Region for July

Unemployment in Yates County ticked up slightly last month compared to June.

According to numbers released by the State Department of Labor, the jobless rate in Yates County for July was 3.2 percent, up from 3.1 percent in May and June. For July, Yates and Columbia tied for the lowest unemployment rate. Ontario County’s unemployment rate for July was 3.5 percent, Seneca County’s 3.7 percent, Schuyler and Tompkins Counties were 3.9 percent and Steuben County’s jobless rate was recorded at 4.2 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate went up slightly to 4.3 percent from June.
