New York State Police issued more than 11,000 traffic tickets and arrested more than 200 impaired drivers during a statewide Memorial Day weekend enforcement campaign.

The special traffic enforcement initiative ran from May 22 through May 25 and was supported in part by funding from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. During the campaign, State Police increased patrols, conducted sobriety checkpoints, and targeted distracted driving violations involving handheld electronic devices.

Troopers issued a total of 11,104 tickets statewide and arrested 211 people for driving while intoxicated. Police also investigated 693 crashes over the four-day period, including four fatal crashes. Speeding remained the most common violation, accounting for 3,116 tickets. Troopers also issued 1,742 seat belt citations, 338 distracted driving tickets, and 249 Move Over Law violations.

The enforcement effort focused on speeding, aggressive driving, impaired driving, and other hazardous traffic behaviors that typically increase during holiday travel periods.

By comparison, during the 2025 Memorial Day weekend enforcement campaign, State Police issued 12,062 tickets and made 245 DWI arrests.
