The New York State Police have promoted Captain Kyle J. Kroeger to the rank of Major and appointed him as the 28th commander of Troop T, the division responsible for policing the New York State Thruway.

Major Kroeger brings more than 20 years of law enforcement and military experience to the position. He most recently served as captain and zone commander for Troop F, Zone 1, overseeing State Police operations in Sullivan County.

A veteran member of the State Police, Kroeger began his career in 2002 as a trooper assigned to SP Wurtsboro in Troop F. He was promoted to sergeant in 2007 and served in a variety of assignments in Troops K and F before becoming station commander at SP Wurtsboro in 2014.

After his promotion to lieutenant, Kroeger was assigned to the Office of Emergency Management and later returned to Troop F as assistant zone commander. In 2021, he was promoted to captain and assigned to Troop T as administrative captain. He returned to Troop F in 2023 as zone commander before his latest promotion.

As commander of Troop T, Kroeger will oversee uniformed members and civilian employees stationed at 12 facilities across 21 counties from New York City to Buffalo. Troop T is responsible for law enforcement and public safety operations along the Thruway’s 570-mile system, one of the nation’s busiest transportation corridors.

Before joining the State Police, Kroeger served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and as a deputy sheriff with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 268th Session in Quantico, Virginia, and holds an MBA from Marist College.

State Police officials said Kroeger’s extensive leadership experience and commitment to public safety make him well-suited to lead Troop T and continue its mission of keeping the Thruway safe for millions of motorists each year.

Kroeger succeeds Major Brian T. Ferrone, who has assumed command of Troop K.
