The Yates County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for full-time and part-time corrections officers.
According to the department, applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid New York State driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must also be United States citizens and reside in Yates County or a neighboring county, including Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, or Steuben, at the time of employment.
The sheriff’s office said appointment to the position is contingent upon successfully completing a physical fitness test, medical examination, and psychological evaluation. Candidates must also complete New York State Basic Correction School and Peace Officer Training within their first year of employment. The required training is provided by the agency.
Starting pay under the 2026 contract is listed at $27.02 per hour for full-time officers and $23.99 per hour for part-time officers. The department says full-time pay increases to $28.43 per hour after the first year.
