Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies have identified the driver killed in a Wednesday morning crash in the Town of Hopewell.

Authorities say Benjamin Best, 32, of Oswego, was the sole occupant of a vehicle that struck a tree on State Route 5&20 just after 7 a.m. Deputies report that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Best was pronounced dead at the scene. Route 5&20 was closed between Freshour and Mumby roads for several hours while investigators processed the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
