One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a tree Wednesday morning in the Town of Hopewell.

Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say they were called to the area of 3735 State Routes 5&20 just after 7 a.m. and found the sole occupant of the vehicle deceased inside.

The road was closed between Freshour Road and Mumby Road for several hours as investigators worked at the scene. Canandaigua Ambulance and the Hopewell Fire Department also responded.

Deputies say preliminary findings indicate speed was a contributing factor. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Ontario County Coroner’s Office.

The identity of the driver has not been released pending family notification.
