The Village of Newark will hold its 20th Annual Community Pride Day cleanup on Saturday, with organizers once again promoting the theme “Color Our Community with Pride.”

Community volunteers are being asked to help beautify the village by planting flowers, pulling weeds, and cleaning up litter throughout the community. Volunteers will gather at 10 a.m. in the municipal parking lot on Route 31, located on the south side of T. Spencer Knight Park east of Pontillo’s, where assignments will be distributed.

Cleanup and planting activities will continue through noon. Work crews will focus on canal banks, parks, canal trails, the areas around old Locks 58 and 59, parking lots, village streets, and other locations where debris removal is needed. Volunteers will also plant flowers in designated areas throughout the village.

Organizers said last year’s effort brought hundreds of flowers to the community and helped showcase Newark’s volunteer spirit and civic pride.

Residents, schools, and local businesses are also encouraged to participate independently by cleaning up their properties and planting flowers around homes and storefronts this spring.

As part of the event, organizers will award two $200 prizes — one for the most colorful natural flower display at a Newark business and another for the best residential front yard floral display.

The 2026 Newark “Color Our Community Pride Day” is sponsored by HEP Sales/North Main Lumber/Builder’s Bargain Outlet, Plassche Lumber, Q’s Power Equipment, the Newark Rotary Club, Newark Garden Club, the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, and the Village of Newark.
