Cayne Hartman, a Lyons man, was arrested following an incident at the Wayne County Jail.

On Tuesday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Lyons man on an arrest warrant following an investigation into an incident at the Wayne County Jail.

Deputies arrested 28-year-old Cayne Hartman for fourth-degree criminal mischief. The arrest stems from an incident that occurred at the jail on January 27 at approximately 7:39 p.m.  It is alleged that while Hartman was incarcerated at the facility, he became irate and repeatedly threw an inmate-issued bin against a cell gate. The actions allegedly caused the cell gate to break and malfunction, resulting in property damage that required repairs.

Shortly after the incident, Hartman was transferred to the Monroe County Jail to be housed on separate, unrelated charges. Because of the transfer, a warrant was issued out of the Town of Lyons Court for the jail damage. On Tuesday, deputies were advised that an order to produce had been issued, bringing Hartman to the Lyons Town Court for his arraignment.

Hartman was transported to the Wayne County Jail for prints and photos before being turned back over to the custody of the Monroe County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lyons Court at a later date to answer the charge.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
