Fatal SUV vs. Motorcycle Accident in Candor Under Investigation

A motorcyclist has died following a crash Saturday afternoon in Tioga County involving a motorcycle and an SUV.

According to New York State Police, troopers from the Owego barracks responded just after noon Friday to a crash on Owego Road, also known as State Route 96, in the Town of Candor.

Investigators said a Ford SUV was traveling south on Owego Road while a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading north. Police said the 88-year-old driver of the SUV attempted to make a left turn into Iron Kettle Farms and failed to see the motorcycle, turning directly into its path.

Authorities said the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the SUV and collided with it.

The driver of the SUV was taken by ambulance to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for evaluation and was reported to be in stable condition.

The motorcyclist was airlifted by LifeNet to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

State Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
