Wegmans is once again partnering with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for the annual “Fill the Bus” fundraiser, a month-long effort to help provide food for children and families facing hunger across the region.
The campaign runs through June 17 and supports the Food Bank’s work in Schuyler, Steuben, and Tompkins counties, where food insecurity continues to affect thousands of residents.
Customers shopping at Wegmans can support the effort by donating non-perishable food items or making a monetary contribution at checkout. Donation options include $2, $3, $5, or any amount of their choosing. According to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, those donations can help provide approximately six, nine, or 15 meals, respectively.
Participating Wegmans stores include:
- Elmira – 1100 Clemens Center Pkwy, Elmira, NY 14901
- Johnson City – 650 Harry L Drive, Johnson City, NY 13790
- Ithaca – 500 S Meadow St, Ithaca, NY 14850
- Hornell – 1000 Highway 36 N, Hornell, NY 14843
- Corning – 24 S Bridge St, Corning, NY 14830
Supporters who are unable to visit a store can also make donations online through the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s website.
The fundraiser comes as hunger remains a significant challenge across the Southern Tier. The Food Bank reports that one in five children and one in seven individuals in the region are at risk of hunger.
Officials say every donation helps provide nutritious food to local families while supporting programs aimed at creating long-term pathways to food security.
The annual “Fill the Bus” campaign has become a key community effort to stock local food assistance programs ahead of the summer months, when many children lose access to school meal programs.
