Brief AMBER Alert Issued For Two Children In Fairport

An AMBER Alert was briefly issued for these two young girls in Fairport, New York, prompting a regional search.

An AMBER Alert issued Saturday evening for two children out of Monroe County was canceled less than three hours after authorities reported a possible abduction in Fairport.

According to the New York State Police Investigative Support Unit, the alert was activated at about 8:57 p.m. Saturday on behalf of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office after two children were reported taken earlier in the afternoon.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 3:19 p.m. in Fairport.

The children were identified as a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. Police said both were believed to be in “imminent danger of serious bodily harm and/or death” at the time the alert was issued.

A 26-year-old male suspect was also identified in the alert, and police said he was last seen in Fairport around the time of the reported abduction.

The alert was canceled at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Officials did not immediately release additional details about the circumstances leading to the cancellation or the condition or location of those involved.

The AMBER Alert system is used in New York when law enforcement determines a child has been abducted and is believed to be in imminent danger.
