Nearly 150,000 New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas & Electric customers have received monthly bill credits through utility assistance programs aimed at helping low- and moderate-income households manage rising energy costs.

NYSEG and RG&E announced this week that customers enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program (EAP) and Enhanced Energy Affordability Program (EEAP) have received the credits as part of efforts developed in partnership with the New York State Public Service Commission.

The programs are designed to provide direct financial relief to eligible customers struggling with energy costs.

“No customer should have to choose between paying their utility bill and covering basic household needs,” said Christine Alexander, vice president of customer service for NYSEG and RG&E. “These assistance programs offer immediate relief to eligible individuals and families and help keep energy service affordable.”

The Energy Affordability Program is available year-round for low-income customers. Households receiving benefits through programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Federal Public Housing Assistance, and other qualifying programs may be eligible.

The Enhanced Energy Affordability Program is aimed at moderate-income households that may not qualify for traditional assistance programs. The initiative is designed to reduce energy costs for customers who are not enrolled in programs accepted under EAP.

NYSEG and RG&E officials emphasized the importance of continued funding for the programs, saying they help ensure families maintain access to safe and reliable energy service.

Customers interested in determining their eligibility for either program are encouraged to contact their utility provider or visit the NYSEG or RG&E websites for additional information.
