AG Releases Video in Fatal LaFayette Trooper Shooting

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday released body-worn camera footage connected to the fatal police shooting of Irene McIntyre in Onondaga County last month.

The footage was obtained by the Attorney General’s Office as part of an ongoing investigation by the Office of Special Investigation into McIntyre’s death following an encounter with New York State Police in the Town of LaFayette on April 12.

According to investigators, State Police troopers responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:46 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in LaFayette. Upon arriving, troopers encountered McIntyre, who authorities say was using her vehicle to strike and run over multiple people.

During the incident, one trooper discharged their service weapon, striking McIntyre. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Officials said one person struck by McIntyre’s vehicle died at the scene, while several others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Attorney General’s Office said the release of the body camera footage is part of a policy directive aimed at increasing transparency and strengthening public trust during investigations involving police use of force.

Under New York State law, the Office of Special Investigation reviews incidents in which a police officer or peace officer may have caused a person’s death, whether the officer was on or off duty and whether the individual was armed or unarmed.

The Attorney General’s Office emphasized that the release of the footage does not indicate any conclusions regarding criminal liability or whether charges will be filed.

Officials warned that the videos contain graphic and disturbing content.
