The Middlesex Town Hall, a brick building with a distinctive teal roof, serves the community in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
The Middlesex Citizens Appreciation Day ceremony will take place at the Middlesex Fire Department on August 4th at 2:00 pm. This is the twentieth annual event sponsored by the Middlesex Heritage Group, the Middlesex Hose Company and the Town. Four long term citizens will be honored for outstanding contributions to the community. Honorees are Pauline Lafler and Duane Shay; and memorials for Leon G. Button and Rodney Dorman, both deceased.
Pauline Lafler was born on February 23, 1934, to Earl and Mildred Fleischman of Naples. She was the Middlesex Town Clerk from 1964 to 1970. Pauline was the first president of the Middlesex Fire Company Sirenettes, member of the Robson-Savage Post American Legion Auxiliary, and Treasurer of the Yates County American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Duane Shay was born on April 12, 1931, to David and Frances Shay. He held a seat on the Town of Italy town board and also served as their Justice of Peace for 40 years. Duane is currently an active member of the Middlesex Heritage Group, where he has contributed many memories and photographs.

Leon Griffith Button was born on October 26, 1891, to Clarence and Nettie Griffith. He provided service through his position as the town councilman for Middlesex for 20 years, then became the Town Highway Supervisor for 4 years.

Rodney Dorman was born on June 15, 1924, to Frank and Ada Dorman. Rodney was also the Water Plant superintendent and the Town Supervisor from 1980 to 1982. He had membership with the Middlesex Hose Co. and Middlesex Ambulance. Rodney received the Lions Club Good Citizen of the Year award
– 1983.
