Cayuga County will soon hold its annual Tire Collection & Recycling event.
A collaborative effort between the Cayuga County Planning Department, the Cayuga County Soil & Water Conservation District, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County, the event allows residents to properly dispose of unwanted tires. Organizers said proper disposal of tires helps prevent environmental hazards and reduces breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which may carry the West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
Organizers add that the event is only open to county residents and proof of residency may be required, tires cannot exceed 36″ in diameter, participants cannot bring more than 40 tires, and solid rubber, bobcat, or aircraft tires will not be accepted.
Tires under 30″ in diameter will be accepted for $2.00 per tire, while those greater than 30″ will cost $5.00.
The tire recycling event will take place from 8:00-11:00a on June 6 at 7413 COunty House Rd.
