The Breast Cancer Coalition, whose logo is pictured, recently hosted a webinar on body compassion in Rochester.

The Breast Cancer Coalition will host a free webinar titled “Body Compassion After Cancer: From Healing to Pleasure” on Wednesday, May 27, at 7 p.m.

The webinar, part of the organization’s Evening Education Webinar Series, will feature Pebble Kranz, MD, FECSM, IF, MSCP. Dr. Kranz will discuss how cancer treatment can change how individuals feel in their bodies and the impacts on physical and emotional health and sexual wellness.

“In this program, I’ll be talking about what it means to live in a body after cancer treatment, when you can feel deeply grateful to be alive and at the same time unfamiliar with, or even feeling betrayed by, your body,” said Dr. Kranz.

She added, “I’ll introduce the idea of body compassion—treating the body with mindful, practical kindness rather than avoidance or criticism—and share evidence that this approach is linked with lower anxiety, depression, and loneliness, and better cancer‑specific quality of life, including data from recent work by Zimmaro and colleagues on body compassion in cancer survivors.”

The program aims to introduce the concept of body compassion and will highlight strategies such as brief grounding exercises, writing practices, gentle somatic strategies, and sexual wellness supports.

Dr. Kranz also stated, “I am deeply grateful to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester for recognizing that healing is not only about survival, but also about comfort, pleasure, and connection in the body after cancer—and for making space to talk openly about these often overlooked parts of the cancer experience.”

The webinar is intended for individuals who have experienced breast or gynecologic cancer, as well as their caregivers and healthcare providers. ASL interpretation will be provided during the 90-minute session, which includes at least 30 minutes for questions.

The Evening Educational Webinar Series receives support from the Lee C. Rosenthal Memorial Education Fund. Registration is available at https://bccr.org/evening-education-webinars/. Participants can submit questions in advance to [email protected].
