About Lucas
Lucas Day is the News Director for FLX Local Media, where he sets daily coverage across WGVA News Radio, WAUB, WFLR, WCGR, WFLK/K101.7, WLLW/101.7 The Wall, WNYR, and the company's flagship news site, FingerLakesDailyNews.com. He works out of the company's Penn Yan studios and leads a team of reporters covering Yates, Schuyler, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Cayuga counties.
Lucas hosts "Open Mic with Lucas Day" Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 9:00 on WFLR (Penn Yan and Dundee), a regular conversation with leaders from non-profits, government, healthcare, and economic development across Yates and Schuyler counties.
He is also the play-by-play announcer on WFLR for Penn Yan Mustangs football, Penn Yan and Dundee/Bradford BraveScots basketball, Mustangs lacrosse, and Mustangs and BraveScots baseball — calling more than fifty regular-season and post-season high school games each year.
His daily reporting focuses on the Yates County courts, municipal meetings, public safety, and the high school athletics calendar — beats he has covered continuously across the FLX cluster since well before the station group's 2026 ownership change.
Expertise
Lucas has covered Yates and Schuyler County government, courts, public safety, and high school athletics across the FLX Local Media stations for years. He is the host of "Open Mic with Lucas Day" on WFLR and the play-by-play voice for Penn Yan and Dundee/Bradford high school sports.
