William Smith Heads to PA for AMCC Title Defense

The William Smith bowling team is headed to Pittsburgh this weekend in a quest to repeat as Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Champions. The Herons enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed, earning a first-round bye.

The three-day tournament begins Friday, March 21, and will be contested at Pines Plaza Lanes. All matches are scheduled to be streamed live by the AMCC.

The AMCC plays two round-robins in the regular season to establish the tournament seeding. The Herons’ 11-3 AMCC record trailed only preseason favorite Saint Vincent (13-1).

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  • The AMCC Championship features the conference’s top six teams.
  • The first round is single elimination. From the second round on, the tournament is double elimination.
  • Teams will compete in a mega match comprised of a traditional match, a Baker match, and if the teams are tied, a best-of-seven Baker match.

DAY 1 SCHEDULE

  • The first round is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
  • William Smith will play its first match at 2:30 p.m. The Herons will face the winner of No. 3 Pitt-Bradford vs. No. 6 Pitt-Greensburg.
  • The Herons were 3-2 against Bradford this season, posting a 2-0 record in traditional matches, 1-1 in Baker matches and 0-1 in a best-of-seven Baker.
  • William Smith swept Greensburg in three showdowns, winning two traditional matches and a Baker match.

DAY 2 SCHEDULE

  • Matches resume on Saturday with the third round starting at 9:30 a.m. and the fourth round at 1:30 p.m.

CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY

  • The final two teams square off for the championship starting at 9:30 a.m. with the “if necessary” match to follow.
  • The champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Collegiate Bowling Championship.
  • William Smith is the defending AMCC Champion, winning as the No. 2 seed last season.
