Three members of the Hobart tennis team were honored for their exceptional play during the 2024-25 season with spots on the All-Liberty League teams which were announced today. Senior Hyat Oyer (Beacon School/New York, N.Y.) led the trio, earning a spot on the singles first team. Junior Nick Fischer (St. Louis University HS/Maryland Heights, Mo.) was voted to the singles second team, and senior Nick Grosso (Saratoga Springs/Greenfield Center, N.Y.) netted singles honorable mention. Fisher and Grosso also garnered second-team doubles recognition.
Oyer played in the top two singles spots for the Statesmen this season, compiling a 14-9 record. He was 13-7 in dual matches, including a 9-5 record at No. 1. During conference play, Oyer was 6-1. He completed his collegiate career with wins in eight of his final nine singles matches. Oyer also played in all three spots in the doubles order, logging a 15-10 record.
This is the third consecutive season that Oyer has earned All-Liberty League singles honors. He was named to the second team as a sophomore and received honorable mention last season. Oyer also earned doubles honorable mention following his junior season. He registered a 66-26 career singles record and a 36-27 doubles record at Hobart.
Fischer was 11-9 in singles play, including a 9-7 mark in dual matches this season. Like Oyer, Fisher played in the top two spots in the Hobart singles order. He was 3-3 in the top spot and 6-4 at No. 2. Fischer was 6-1 in his final seven matches. This was his third straight appearance on the All-Liberty League singles teams following honorable mention in 2023 and first team recognition last year. Fisher has a 46-23 career singles record.
Grosso was 11-10 in singles action this season, including a 10-8 mark in dual matches. He was 9-8 at No. 3 singles and won his lone appearance at No. 2 singles. Grosso was named to the All-Liberty League teams for the first time in his career. He has a 41-26 career singles record.
Fischer and Grosso formed Hobart’s top doubles team this year. They were 12-9 overall, including a 9-7 record in dual matches. Fischer and Grosso won four of their final five matches of the season.
Grosso was 23-15 in doubles play for his career, while Fischer is 43-24 in doubles over his first three seasons.
Hobart was 12-9 overall, 6-2 in Liberty League play. The Statesmen, who finished second in the league’s regular season standing, advanced to the Liberty League Championship match before falling to 10th-ranked RPI. Hobart is 41st in the nation in the latest ITA Division III ranking.
