Keuka Volleyball Blanked by Brockport

Keuka College Women’s Volleyball team put up a strong fight but lost to SUNY Brockport 3-0 on Friday evening.

Nina Scott (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) led the Wolves with 9 kills, while Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) added 24 assists and a match-high 5 service aces.

Keuka College fell 6-1 early on in the opening set but made a quick comeback. A pair of service aces from Casey Hunziker gave the Wolves momentum to get back within one point. The Golden Eagles pulled away again, gaining a 14-7 lead. The Green and Gold then went on a 9-2 run to tie the set at 16 a piece. The teams traded points in the later stages, but SUNY Brockport edged out Keuka with a 26-24 win, despite a late push from the Wolves.

The second set saw a tight back-and-forth battle with multiple lead changes. Keuka opened with strong offensive play, highlighted by kills from Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y. / Sweet Home) and a block from Sydney Haust (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) to take a 13-12 lead. SUNY Brockport rallied and pulled ahead, but Keuka responded late with a kill from Nina Scott to tie the set at 25-25. However, the Wolves were unable to finish the job, dropping the second frame in extra points again, 27-25.

In the third set, SUNY Brockport surged ahead quickly, building a 16-10 lead. Despite several kills from Scott and Edholm, Keuka struggled to close the gap. Brockport’s offensive efficiency was too much for the Wolves, closing out the set at 25-16 and a 3-0 match victory.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will look to bounce back in another conference matchup on Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m. Keuka is set to play SUNY Geneseo for the first time since the Knights joined the Empire 8 Conference this year.
