The Keuka College field hockey team came up just short in its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday, falling 2-1 to Oswego State on the road.

After a scoreless opening eight minutes, Keuka generated early pressure with three penalty corners but couldn’t find the back of the cage. The Wolves broke through in the second period when Anna Dewey (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney) scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Tori Nelson (Vernon Center, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) to give Keuka a 1-0 lead.

The Lakers responded before halftime, equalizing late in the second period. Neither team generated much offense in the third, as Oswego managed a pair of attempts while holding Keuka without a shot.

In the fourth, Brianna Broadwell (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) nearly put the Wolves back in front, but her shot was stopped. Oswego capitalized minutes later, scoring the game-winner with four minutes remaining to secure the 2-1 victory.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves are now 1-9 all-time against Oswego State.
  • Dewey’s 13th career goal moves her into a tie for eighth on Keuka’s all-time scoring list with Alysa Maddaleno.
  • Nelson’s assist brings her to 58 career points, tying her for third all-time with Kirstin Billings.

Up Next: Keuka (now shifting to conference play) will host Utica University on Saturday, Oct. 4, in an Empire 8 matchup.
