Hobart College sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder James Hamilton has been named a recipient of the inaugural Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award.
Hamilton, a Parker, Colorado native, was among 77 NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse student-athletes honored this week, along with Kennedy Gleason, daughter of Coach Liam Gleason.
Hobart Head Coach Stephen Brundage praised Hamilton for his leadership and attitude on and off the field.
“James is the ultimate team guy,” Brundage said. “He always brings great energy and enthusiasm to everything that he does. A great teammate and leader on and off the field, James embodies and honors the spirit of Coach Gleason.”
The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award was established earlier this year by family members, former coaches, and friends to honor student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, support for teammates and staff, and community involvement.
Each NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse program selected one player for the award, with recipients chosen through voting by players, coaches, and staff. The honor recognizes the teammate others most aspire to emulate.
Coach Gleason’s mother, Sue Gleason, said the award is intended to keep Liam’s legacy alive through acts of kindness and positivity.
“Liam was that light in the world, and even though his physical presence is gone, his light continues to shine,” she said.
