Hobart Baseball Shuts Out Elmira

The Hobart baseball team shut out Elmira 6-0 on the turf field at Finger Lakes Community College this afternoon. The Statesmen batted around in the fourth inning, plating four runs on the way to the victory.

  • Hobart extended its winning streak to three games, improving to 4-2 overall.
  • Junior Cole Tarrant pitched five strong innings, allowing only three hits while striking out four before turning the game over to the bullpen.
  • Juniors Nate Garrett and Will Jones both had two hits while senior Nate Johnson and first-year Jay Voica each had two RBIs.

TAKING THE LEAD

  • Sophomore Jack Byrnes reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the third inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
  • Johnson brought him home with a single to right center.

BREAKING IT OPEN

  • Hobart loaded the bases to start the fourth and Voica delivered a two-run single.
  • Two batters later, Johnson brought Garrett home on a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Connor Schmiedlin added an RBI single before the Soaring Eagles worked out of the inning.

FOR THREE!

  • In the sixth, Jones completed the day’s scoring when he crushed a triple to the gap in right center, scoring Johnson.

SPRING BREAK

  • Hobart will head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to play five games in five days at the Ripken Experience.
  • The Statesmen begin their southern swing against Ursinus at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 14.
