Auburn Graduate Chosen in MLB Draft

A recent graduate of Auburn High School was drafted Monday in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

Ryan Birchard was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers as the 155th overall pick. In two seasons with Niagara Community College, the right-handed pitcher went 14-1 and struck out 177 batters. Birchard, a member of the Auburn Class of 2021, is currently playing for the Trenton Thunder collegiate summer baseball team, which plays in the Eastern League.

Previously, Auburn’s Matt Brooks was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 35th round in 2016 and played in their minor league system for three seasons before being released.   Tim Locastro was drafted by Toronto in the 13th round of the 2013 draft and is currently with the Mets after previously playing for the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Yankees.
