Thompson Health is holding a job fair this Thursday, February 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES campus in Newark, and organizers say they’re looking to fill a wide range of positions — not just clinical roles.

The event will take place in the Arcadia York building at 131 Drumlin Court, located near the corner of East Maple Avenue and Vienna Street on the BOCES campus. Signs will be posted to help direct attendees to the right building. Thompson Health representatives are encouraging job seekers to come dressed for an interview and bring a resume.

Tori Perrin Thompson, representing Thompson Health’s recruiting team, said the fair will feature hiring managers and department directors on-site to speak directly with candidates. “We’ll have some of our directors and hiring managers there that people can talk to and learn more about different jobs,” she said. Food will also be provided.

Open positions span a broad spectrum, from licensed clinical roles like registered nurses, LPNs, respiratory therapists, radiology techs, and pharmacy techs, to entry-level opportunities in clinical secretarial work, nutrition services, and environmental services. Perrin Thompson noted that some positions, such as pharmacy tech and patient care tech, offer on-the-job training, while roles like nursing and radiology tech require a degree.

Nursing remains the highest-demand area, she said, which mirrors a nationwide trend in healthcare staffing. But Perrin Thompson emphasized that Thompson Health differentiates itself through its workplace culture and commitment to work-life balance. CEO Mike Stapleton hosts regular “Breakfast with the CEO” sessions where new hires can share feedback directly with leadership — a detail Perrin Thompson cited as emblematic of the organization’s approach to staff engagement and retention.

“We feel like we are a community taking care of our community,” she said. “It’s a warm, welcoming environment and a thriving health system.”

Paul Szmal: and the recruiters and just learn what we have to offer. So joining a healthcare system and a situation and a situation like a Thompson Health gives you a variety of opportunities to do a variety of different things. So there's a lot of ground that it's going to be covered as part of this job fair.

Tori Perrin Thompson: That is correct. We have lots of different positions for people. We have certainly nursing positions, RNs and LPNs, respiratory therapists, radiology techs, pharmacy techs, but we also have entry-level positions. So things like clinical secretaries, nutrition services, environmental services. So we really do in a healthcare system have a wide variety of jobs available.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. It's not just about being a doctor or a nurse. There are again, a variety of things that are involved here. Where is this event going to take place at Torrey?

Tori Perrin Thompson: So it's at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES campus. The address is 131 Drumlin Court and it is between, it's kind of on the corner of East Maple Avenue and Vienna Street because there are several buildings on that campus, but we'll have some signs up and it will be in the Arcadia York building, which is one of the middle buildings when you come onto the campus. And we would love for you to come and meet us.

Paul Szmal: What are some of the advantages to working for an organization like Thompson Health Torrey?

Tori Perrin Thompson: So one of the biggest things we talk about is our culture. And we talk about that all the time because it is real. The culture here at Thompson is friendly. It is just a warm, welcoming environment. We feel like we are a community taking care of our community. It's a thriving health system. So folks who come here will have job security and certainly can be part of our Thompson community for years to come. We have a wonderful executive team that is very interested in the feedback from people who work here. He does our CEO, Mike Stapleton does breakfast with the CEO where new hires can come and talk to him about things that are going well, or maybe not going well. We do all sorts of staff recognition. So it's just a fun, lovely place to work.

Paul Szmal: Are there any particular job titles or job descriptions that Thompson Health is most in need of right now?

Tori Perrin Thompson: I would say nursing is always a big one for any hospital at this point. So we're always looking for nurses. And things like pharmacy techs, radiology techs. Now pharmacy techs, you can be trained on the job. Patient care techs, you can be trained on the job. There are certain jobs like nursing, radiology techs, where you do have to have a degree for those jobs. So it's a wide variety.

Paul Szmal: And I like the idea that there's an emphasis on a work and life balance at Thompson Health. Can you kind of expand on that a little bit, Tori, and talk about that? I'm sure that's related to the culture of the workplace that you're talking about.

Tori Perrin Thompson: Yes, we do promote that. We want people to feel like, you know, certainly work is a huge part of our lives, but we don't want people to feel like they're sacrificing their home life for that. So we want to support people in that balance, which certainly in healthcare can be challenging. And we want people to know that we want to work with them to find that balance. You know, nursing jobs are tough and you work long hours, but we want to be sure that you also can find that balance and not feel like you're sacrificing your family.

Paul Szmal: Now the event is coming up Thursday again. It's at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES campus in Newark from four until six. Come dress for an interview, bring your resume, Tori.

Tori Perrin Thompson: That sounds perfect. And like I said, we'll have some of our directors and hiring managers there that people can talk to and learn more about different jobs. We're going to have food. So we're hoping it's going to be a really fun event.

Paul Szmal: All right. And once again, some of the variety of jobs that are being offered Tori?

Tori Perrin Thompson: Nursing jobs, entry-level positions, nutrition services, radiology techs. So we have a wide variety. So please come talk to us about why it's great to work at Thompson.

Paul Szmal: And again, that is coming up tomorrow, Thursday at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES campus on Drumlin Court in Newark. Tori, thank you so much for filling us in on this. And I hope you find a lot of quality candidates to fill some of those job positions.
