LC New York is launching a pop-up “Fill a Bucket” sale on Friday, December 13th and Saturday, December 14th, offering shoppers 60% off anything they can fit inside a five-gallon bucket, purchased for $3.49.

Peter Semmel, who represents LC New York, announced the promotion live on the FLX Morning Podcast Thursday morning — noting it hadn’t even been posted to the store’s Facebook page yet. The sale runs Friday and Saturday, though the store will close early Saturday so staff can attend the It’s a Wonderful Life Festival.

The bucket sale comes with a few exceptions: clothing and any items marked as “final price” are not eligible for the discount. But Semmel says the savings can be significant. He offered a few examples from the store’s current inventory: a vitamin C supplement that retails for $13.99 drops to $5.60 with the bucket deal; a JBL Bluetooth speaker normally priced at $149.99 comes down to $60; and curtain lights listed at $98.99 can be had for $39.60.

“You can easily fill that bucket up with several hundred dollars worth of stuff — only you’re not going to pay several hundred for it,” Semmel said.

LC New York sources its merchandise from major big-box retailers through standing contracts, meaning inventory changes constantly. Semmel says the store receives truckloads Monday through Friday and never knows exactly what will arrive. He encourages shoppers to follow the store on social media, where he posts about noteworthy new arrivals as they come in. Recent shipments have included rock salt — a timely find given current winter weather conditions.

The store is also partnering with Finger Lakes Daily News on a holiday giveaway. Visitors to fingerlakesdailynews.com can register to win a prize package that includes a futon, holiday throw pillows, a rug, and a 65-inch Samsung 4K QLED television.

LC New York is located in the Waterloo/Seneca Falls area. For updates on new inventory and upcoming sales, follow the store on social media.

Paul Szmal: Good morning, it's 7.50, it's FLX Morning Thursday, it's Guest-O-Rama Thursday, all four slots are filled and we have Peter Semmel here from LC, New York. Good morning and thanks for your advertising business as always.

Peter Semmel: Good morning, how are you guys this morning?

Paul Szmal: Doing well, so first the big burning question, did we ever figure out is it Waterloo or Seneca Falls? Everybody still asks that.

Peter Semmel: It's one of those things that's just a mystery. We have Waterloo and Seneca Falls that we also say as well, I also slip up and say the same exact thing.

Paul Szmal: Alright, so you've been hearing the ads for this fill-a-bucket sale and I'm seeing it right in front of me here, you've got this awesome looking three and a half plus gallon bucket and people can cram as much in there as they can.

Peter Semmel: Yes, so it's not even on but it will be later today. We're going to do a pop-up bucket sale for LC, New York, it's a LC fan favorite we call that. You take this five gallon bucket, you purchase this bucket for $3.49 and anything you can fit in that bucket is 60% off with the exception of clothes and a final price item we call it. It's a great bucket.

Paul Szmal: Yeah, it's also a great bucket to have around.

Peter Semmel: This is December 13th and 14th, so do people come in and buy the bucket and go home and practice? Because it's all about how you fit everything in and where you stuff it. I see it quite a bit. I actually went around the store, I have not ever had to fill a bucket, but I went around the store yesterday and brought some in with me today and had to try to fit stuff in this bucket and it can be challenging depending on what you're looking for.

Paul Szmal: So remind us, it's been a while since we talked, where you get your merchandise from?

Peter Semmel: We actually get ours from just big box retail stores. We have contracts set up so they just automatically send it and one of the big things that I try to tell people in the store is it's like Christmas every day, Monday through Friday anyways. We get truckloads and when it shows up, we don't know what we're going to get when we open that truck door. So it's like Christmas every day.

So people always ask, do you going to get this? Are you going to get that? And I have to tell them, I really honestly do not know. So I try to use social media and word of mouth best I can for the regulars that come in. Things that come in, the exciting stuff that comes in, I try to post. So what you got to do is you just got to keep checking back.

Paul Szmal: I mean that's what we talked about in our previous visits is, because like you said, you literally do not know until the truck comes in and then it's like, okay, we got this and here's the sale.

Peter Semmel: That's correct. That's absolutely correct.

Paul Szmal: Yeah, we never know what's going to come through that truck door.

Lately, we've gotten a pallet of rock salt. So rock salt's been handy.

Peter Semmel: Yeah, having rock salt because of the weather we have currently, that's kind of nice. Well, and it's just, you know, we just, we had the news story about the governor's considering giving out some money as in sort of inflation rebates and the top concern of everybody in New York surveyed right now is the cost of everything. So when you can come in a place like LC New York and save on a lot of good basic stuff, it helps a family a lot. It does. And I like to think that when customers leave our store, that they actually are getting the value for their money. That's, that's really what I want to try that when they leave our store, they're thinking, man, my, my dollars actually stretched today. Whereas if you went somewhere else, possibly not.

Paul Szmal: So this, this deal wasn't in the ads.

Peter Semmel: No, no, this is, I'm announcing it with you right here on the radio. This is something that I haven't even put on Facebook yet. It's something that we're going to do starting tomorrow and then Saturday until we're, we're closing early on Saturday because we're going to the, it's a wonderful life festival.

Paul Szmal: Of course.

Peter Semmel: But Friday and Saturday, we're going to do a pop-up bucket sale. You heard it here first.

Paul Szmal: Sounds excellent. Now tell us about the giveaway. If you go to fingerlakesdailynews.com, you'll see your chance to register for the LC New York giveaway that you're doing with our stations. We're excited to do that with you guys again this year. I know we did it last year, but we really like giving back. And with that, I believe it's a futon.

Peter Semmel: We have a couple holiday throw pillows. We have a rug of their choice. We have a nice Samsung. I believe it's a 4k or QLED TV. I think it's a 65 inch TV.

Paul Szmal: Wow. We have a very nice TV. We're really looking forward to giving that away again this year.

Sounds great. Now for late Christmas people, do you have Christmas decorations and things?

Peter Semmel: We have a lot of Christmas decorations. Yes. We have a lot of Christmas decorations. We have a little bit of wrapping paper left. We don't have any gift bags. If you're looking for those ways to wrap, all I have is wrapping paper left right now. And like you were saying, you get your merchandise from these big box stores. I assume a lot of times it's closeouts and things. So it wouldn't be too surprising to expect maybe some Christmas stuff coming in in the early part of January.

Paul Szmal: Correct.

Peter Semmel: Correct. We've actually gotten some in December, but I would expect we would get some more in January. Yes.

Paul Szmal: All right. LC New York is doing the fill a bucket sale and you save 60% on wherever you can fit inside. There are some exclusions, no clothing, for example, no final price items. But I mean, I'm looking at what's in there right now. I mean, that's got to be like, you know, 50, 100 bucks worth of stuff in that bucket.

Peter Semmel: It is. If you just want vitamin C, you know, it's that time of year. Two pack of vitamin C retails for $13.99 in the store. It's $5.60 with the bucket sale. Or if you want some really nice JBL Bluetooth speaker.

Paul Szmal: Oh, look at that. Normally $149.99. It's $60 if you can fit it in the bucket.

Peter Semmel: That's in our display case. That's our high end product. And I have a smaller version of that JBL speaker that I love. They're a wonderful speaker. Great crisp sound.

Paul Szmal: Yeah.

And then we have some Govee curtain lights. It's something new that we've gotten in this year.

Peter Semmel: Nice. In the store, it's $98.99. It's $39.60 with the 60% off bucket sale.

Paul Szmal: Wow. So, I mean, that's, you know, you can easily fill that bucket up with several hundred dollars worth of stuff. Only you're not going to pay several hundred for it because you know where to go. LC New York, either in Waterloo or Seneca Falls or perhaps straddling the line.

Peter Semmel: Yes, sir.

Paul Szmal: Peter, thanks as always. Great to talk with you again. And again, thanks for your business on the FLX local media stations. We appreciate that tremendously.

Peter Semmel: Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day.

Paul Szmal: All right. And a wonderful life as well. Go out and check out that deal and fill up your bucket. It is $7.57.
