Downtown Geneva is kicking off a packed summer events calendar, starting with First Fridays on June 6 and rolling into new community events designed to fill gaps left by the end of Cruisin’ Night.

Catherine Price of the Geneva Business Improvement District joined FLX Morning to walk through what’s happening this season. First Fridays returns tonight with free entertainment scattered throughout the downtown area. Live music will be featured on Linden Street and at FT2 at the 41 Lakefront, and a saxophone-playing busker from HOUS students will roam the streets. Fully Loaded 315, a new restaurant coming to downtown Geneva, is doing a pop-up preview tonight, and the Dove Block Project is hosting an art opening featuring work from Ontario County Arc.

Tonight also marks the kickoff of Live from Linden, a summer concert series on a closed-off Linden Street. This week’s headliner is Frankenjouli, a classic rock band performing from 6 to 10 p.m. The full lineup for First Fridays can be found at genevadowntown.com.

Later in the month, the BID is launching Music Mondays, a new community event series. The first one is June 16 at Bisonteniol Park, across from the Exchange Street parking lot. The event will feature live music, food trucks — including Heavy Kevy’s Catering and Macaroni — and vendors from downtown Geneva and the Saturday farmers market. Additional Music Mondays are planned for July and August.

Looking ahead to July 4th weekend, the BID is hosting Geneva Paddle Fest on July 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the lakefront near the Castle Creek outlet. Sponsored by the New York State Canal Corporation, Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, and On the Canals, the event will feature kayak demonstrations with an American Canoe Association instructor on hand. A variety of kayaks — touring, recreational, and sea kayaks — will be available to try, along with adaptive equipment for those who need it. Attendees can find the location by heading to the Welcome Center and looking to the right toward the lake.

More information on all events is available at genevadowntown.com.

Paul Szmal: Welcome back to FLX Morning. It is 754. I'm joined by Kathryn Price from the Geneva BID or BID, however you want to refer to it. Either way. It's great. Good morning. Either way works. We got a lot to talk about, so let's jump right into it because, well, today happens to be the first Friday of the month, so that means we have first Friday activities in downtown Geneva.

Catherine Price: Yes, exactly, and we have so many events this evening. Live music on Linden Street, live music at FT2 at 41 Lakefront. We're going to have live saxophone busker. One of the HWS students is going to walk around downtown and play the saxophone for a while. It's going to be a lot of fun. Oh, that'll be neat to run into that.

Paul Szmal: Yes, and then a lot of the restaurants are doing specials and have special offerings. We have drink specials, and first, a fully loaded 315 is a new restaurant in downtown Geneva. They're going to be open. They're doing a pop-up to give you a sneak peek at their downtown location. It's going to be great. And, of course, the Dove Block Project. They're doing an opening this evening from Ontario County Arc. Oh, nice.

Catherine Price: Yes. So there is a lot going on, and some of the musical activities, is there a charge for those? No, everything is free of charge. Awesome. Yes. Well, I mean, not the drinks or the, obviously, food specials, but yes, but all the entertainment is free, which is great, which is, you know, one of the things, too, tonight's the kickoff for Live from Linden, which we love. You can go to their Facebook page, Live from Linden, to see the lineup. This week, we've got Frank and Julie. They're amazing musicians that play a wide range of classic rock songs, and they just don't stop. It's going to be so much fun down there.

Paul Szmal: Awesome. I always love Live from Linden in the summertime, turning that Linden Street almost into a little, like, mini block party that's going on there. Absolutely. And it's so great that it lines up with our First Fridays, too. So Linden Street will be closed off. Their music runs from 6 to 10, but you have the other musicians that are sprinkled around. If you go to our website, GenevaDowntown.com, there's a First Fridays page, and it has all of the entire lineup for this evening.

Catherine Price: So that's not the only thing that's going on, though. No. So we're going to talk about more things, because I love this time of year. So Music Monday is coming up. The first one is on Monday, June 16th. You know, it was really unfortunate that we weren't able to continue to do Cruisin' Night. And we're trying to bring some more community events back that fill some of those gaps. Of course, we're doing a car show in September, but now we're doing Music Monday. So we have three of them in June, July, and August in the middle of the month. We're going to have vendors, live music, food trucks, Heavy Kevvy's Catering is going to be there, and Macaroni will be there on that Monday.

Paul Szmal: That's a tough choice to try to choose between the two. I recommend something from both. Yes. That's me, too. And then after that, you can have something from Geneva Gelato, other downtown. Everybody from downtown is going to come and set up tables and booths. So all of your favorite foods and snacks are going to be down there. Right. And of course, again, live music. And we're farmers market vendors, too. So if you didn't make it to the farmers market on Saturday, you can come down on a Monday and pick up your leafy greens and fresh strawberries.

Catherine Price: And I know that farmers market, that is a tradition in downtown Geneva during the summer. Yes. And these Mondays are in Bicentennial Park. So it's right across the street from the Exchange Street parking lot. So there's plenty of parking. You can just walk on over and you'll park right next to the sign that says farmers market and come on over and get some farmers market. Yeah, there you go. That sounds like it's going to be a good time.

Paul Szmal: You've got another new event coming up, and we've got about maybe a minute here to talk about Paddle Fest that's on the way. Yes. So that's July 5th. It's sponsored by the New York State Canal Corporation, Erie-Kanawee National Heritage Corridor and On the Canals. So we have great support for this event. We have an ACA instructor that's coming that's going to lead our activities. So this is from 11 to 4 at the lakefront by the Castle Creek outlet. So if you're at the Welcome Center and you're looking at the lake, just look to the right and you'll be able to find us.

Catherine Price: We're going to have kayak demonstrations. You get to try out kayaks or a variety of kayaks that you can try. Touring, recreational. They'll have some sea kayaks there, too, for those of you who are more experienced and want to try some different equipment. And my gosh, I feel like I'm talking as fast as I can. No, actually, and there's adaptive equipment there, too, for people that need it. So you can find out about all these events, by the way, if you go to the website, which is?
