Despite a rainy day on the course, the FLX Chamber’s annual Golf Tournament drew a record-breaking number of teams this year, with Dominguez Marketing of Buffalo taking the title for the second consecutive year.

Tera Sauve from the FLX Chamber joined FLX Morning on Thursday, May 22 to recap the tournament and preview what’s coming up on the Chamber calendar. She noted that while the weather wasn’t ideal, everything else went smoothly — including a growing on-course vendor booth component that now features roughly 20 businesses set up in a trade show-style format, giving companies a way to network and participate even without fielding a full golf team.

Mark Dominguez, owner of Dominguez Marketing, led his team to the top for the second year in a row. The Buffalo-based firm, which designed the FLX Chamber’s new website and has hosted several of the Chamber’s lunch and learn events, made the trip down specifically for the tournament. Sauve joked they’ll be going for a three-peat in 2026.

Looking ahead, the next Business After Hours mixer is set for Wednesday, June 11, hosted by Potter Heating, Cooling and Plumbing in Canandaigua. The Chamber skipped a May mixer in favor of the golf tournament, so June’s event marks the return of that series.

Before that, on Thursday, June 5 from 12 to 1 p.m., the Chamber will host a Member Milestone Celebration for Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association, which recently relocated to downtown Geneva. The open house-style event is free and open to the community — attendees can tour the new space and learn more about the organization’s work.

Sauve also welcomed the Chamber’s newest member, Zen Business, an AI-powered platform designed to help new businesses stay compliant and navigate the startup process. More information is available at the Chamber’s website.

Sponsors for the golf tournament included Guardian Glass Geneva and CFCU Community Credit Union as promotional sponsors, Tradition Auto Group as the hole-in-one sponsor, and Bank of the Finger Lakes, FLX Retreats, Wegmans, and Turning Pension Administration as community sponsors.

Paul Szmal: FLX Morning continues at 8.39. It's Chamber Thursday. Tara Sovey is here from the FLX Chamber, freshly dried out from yesterday's Chamber Golf Tournament. Good morning. How are you?

Tera Sauve: Good. How are you, Paul?

Paul Szmal: Good. Good. So, how did everything go? I know the weather didn't cooperate yesterday the way you would have wanted.

Tera Sauve: Yes. Weather didn't cooperate, but everything else was awesome. We had a record-breaking number of teams, and we do on-course fender booths. So we had about 20 people on the course that kind of had a trade show set-up style booth. So golfers could go around and kind of just network with some of the other businesses that maybe don't want to golf or don't have enough staff to send a team, and they want to get involved with the golf tournament. So this has been growing the last couple years. So overall, it was an awesome day.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. Do you happen to know off the top of your head who won?

Tera Sauve: Yes. So our winners this year is also our winners from last year, Dominguez Marketing. Mark Dominguez is the owner, and they are actually out of Buffalo. So he is the one that designed our new website and has hosted some of our Lunch and Learns. So they drove all the way down from Buffalo yesterday to play in this tournament, and they won for the second year in a row.

Paul Szmal: Wow. So congratulations to them.

Tera Sauve: Yeah. They'll be going for a three-peat next year.

Paul Szmal: Yep. Absolutely. So what's the, it looks like the next item up on the agenda is going to be the next Business After Hours Mixer.

Tera Sauve: Yeah. So we didn't have a Business After Hours in May because of our golf tournament. So Wednesday, June 11th, we're going to be at Potter Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing in Canandaigua. So we're excited about that one and having them host and get to meet the owners, get to meet the team, and learn a little bit more about all that they do and have to offer.

Paul Szmal: And then the next major milestone celebration coming up, when is that, and who are we celebrating this time around?

Tera Sauve: Yes. We are excited to announce a member milestone celebration that will be on Thursday, June 5th, from 12 to 1. And it's for Seneca Lake Pier Waters Association's Relocation Open House. They moved right on downtown Geneva. So we're excited to kind of just welcome the new space. You might have seen their new logo on their outside window when you drive by, which is very nice. And you get to learn a little bit more about what they do. They have been a member with us for a long time now, so we're excited to kind of welcome to the downtown area and have a presence down there.

Paul Szmal: And what happens at one of these milestone celebrations?

Tera Sauve: So member milestone celebrations, it can be anything from an anniversary or relocation, anything unique that we offer. And it's just to bring awareness to that member and that business. So our mixers book up so fast and we can only have so many a year. So that's why the member milestones kind of started and it's been really popular, especially this year, just to kind of celebrate these members and these businesses with unique stories that they have and being able to tell their stories and bring people to them. So there will be a nice little photo op as well. So if you're interested in coming down for that, you're more than welcome to.

Paul Szmal: And there's a brand new member that we get to welcome since the last time we chatted.

Tera Sauve: Yeah. So we are excited to welcome Zen Business. They are an AI platform that helps kind of new businesses stay compliant and helping to make sure that they are ready when they're starting up. So we're excited to welcome them on board and you can learn a little bit more about them on our website as well.

Paul Szmal: Zen Business. I love the name.

Tera Sauve: Yeah, I know. Yeah. That's very creative.

Paul Szmal: It is. We want to give a shout out to the annual partners once again, like we always do.

Tera Sauve: Yeah. So thank you to our annual partners. They have been a huge help in some of these major events, especially like yesterday at the golf tournament. A lot of our annual partners were there either playing or had an on-course booth or supported it in some way. So thank you to Canandaigua National Bank and Trust, Casella Waste Systems, Community Broadband Networks, Fairfield Byte, Marriott, Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union, Four Winds Chimney, Guardian Glass, Massa Construction, Enhance of the Finger Lakes, Padulas Wine and Liquor, Potter Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing, Scenic Lake Resorts, and Finger Lakes Partners Insurance by World and Waterloo Container.

Paul Szmal: And while we're at it too, even though the Chamber Golf Tournament wrapped up yesterday, why don't we go ahead and give a shout out to the sponsors that helped make that possible too.

Tera Sauve: Yes. A lot of our sponsors were also present yesterday. So thank you to them. We couldn't do this without them and their support. Our promotional sponsors were Guardian Glass Geneva, CFCU Community Credit Union. Our hole-in-one sponsor was Tradition Auto Group. And our community sponsors Bank of the Finger Lakes, FLX Retreats, Wegmans, and Attorney Pension Administration. So we had a nice group of sponsors this year. So we can't thank them enough for all the help and support into this tournament.

Paul Szmal: And having a record-breaking tournament kind of raises the bar for next year now.

Tera Sauve: It does. It does. We're excited. It's nice to have the on-course booths, have the teams there. So this is one of our favorite events, and it seems like everybody loves it and keeps coming back.

Paul Szmal: All right. Well, thanks so much for stopping in this morning, Tara. Much appreciated. And hopefully you've dried out from yesterday.

Tera Sauve: Yes. Thank you. And hopefully next time around for the next event that you have, Mother Nature will be kind for a change.

Paul Szmal: Yes. We hope so. Fingers crossed.

Tera Sauve: All right.
