Paul Szmal: FLX Morning continues as we're coming up on 8-16. Sunshine coming through, still chilly though, and below freezing at 31. Time to talk events around the Finger Lakes with Finger Lakes Visitors Connection, and to do that, Carolina Taylor joins us. Good morning, how are you?
Carolina Taylor: Good morning, Paul. A little cold, but it's good to be welcoming some different weather too. Yeah, hopefully we'll get a little bit of a warm up, and I'm still crossing my fingers for decent weather for Halloween, although it's not looking particularly great right now. There are a couple of Halloween events that are still to come. One of them is tomorrow night at the Smith Opera House in Geneva.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, so the Smith Opera House in Geneva is offering the Vampire Circus. This is going to be a night of live entertainment, and they're going to have a show that features theater, dance, and gymnastics, so it has a Tim Burton's kind of vibe to it, so whoever enjoys these kinds of shows, this is definitely the place for it. Yeah, I think Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas and Cirque du Soleil kind of got together. It's kind of a mashup of that. Pretty interesting looking show.
Carolina Taylor: Yes, definitely. And then there's going to be a Halloween bash at the Hotel Canandaigua. That's going to be on Halloween itself.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, so this is going to be an activity for adults, so adults can also enjoy a Halloween party. Heart Promises is going to be playing. This is New York State's classic rock party band, and it's going to be between 7 and 11 p.m., and they're going to feature light appetizers and treats from Nolan's Gathering. So the first drink is included with the ticket, and they're also going to have a costume contest with some prizes, so everyone please feel motivated to go and participate.
Carolina Taylor: Yeah, and that's again at the Hotel Canandaigua from 7 to 11 on Halloween itself. As we get into the month of November, Carolina, we get into some holiday events, but the first one we want to talk about is actually a brew fest.
Paul Szmal: Yes, so we're going to have experience to taste the brewery scene of the Finger Lakes, and this is going to be the annual Fall Brew Fest. It's going to be in November 1st at the 41 Lake Farm Hotel in Geneva, and this is presented by the Seneca Lake Order of Brewers, and they're going to bring together more than 20 breweries around Seneca Lake, and everyone can enjoy an afternoon of beer, wine, food, and some other activities. And a lot of these craft breweries, in addition to the products that they offer year-round, will have some specialty fall and winter brews that they'll be doing, so it'll be a chance for you to taste some of those.
Carolina Taylor: Yep. And then the High Point Fall Bash is coming up on November the 8th. This is out in Victor.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, this is their 13th edition this year, and the celebration brings together the community. They showcase dozens of sports and family-friendly activities like music, so it's a good way to say goodbye to fall and welcome the holiday season.
Carolina Taylor: Yes, and speaking of the holiday season, as we're talking with Carolina Taylor from Finger Lakes Visitors Connection, one of the first holiday events will be in Canandaigua on November the 8th, the Criskindle Jam.
Paul Szmal: Yes, the Granger Homestead is going to host different events to welcome the season a little early. The first one is the Jam, which is going to be on November 8th between 7.30 and 9.30 p.m. They're going to have dinner by Kicks on Main Street in Canandaigua, and they're also going to have some live music. And that follows, or following that, I should say, is the Granger Homestead Criskindle Market.
Carolina Taylor: Yes, that's going to be between November 14 and 16, and people can enjoy more than a hundred. I was going to say a thousand, a hundred artisans, craftsmen, specialty food vendors, and they also have Santa's house in Canandaigua, just so kids can go in and say what they would like for Christmas this year.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, they can actually get an early start on talking to Santa. Oh, yes, he's visiting Canandaigua a little early. Yes, and then the Granger Homestead Festival of Trees begins on November the 14th.
Carolina Taylor: Yes, this is a very unique event in the Finger Lakes, and it features different trees of all sizes, characteristics, and they're adorned with different things like lights, nutcrackers. So they have also over a hundred items displayed each year. So this is a great way to welcome the season with a serene winter wonderland in Canandaigua.
Paul Szmal: Absolutely. And then if you go to Canandaigua, stay in the Canandaigua area, at the end of the month of November is the Illuminate Light Parade in the downtown shopping district. This is always a perennial favorite.
Carolina Taylor: Yes, this is going to be on November 29, and it starts at 6 p.m. People can enjoy a parade full of Christmas lights with Santa's arrival again. He's going to come to Commons Park, and then this is going to be followed by the Tree Lining Ceremony. So it's a way for people to celebrate. And we're also going to have a procession of illuminated floats, firetrucks, and antique cars.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, it's going to be a great time on November the 29th. And again, that starts at 6 o'clock in the evening. I'd say you're probably going to need to dress warm for that one by that time of year.
Carolina Taylor: Yes. All right. Now, you can find more information about these events and many others, by the way, if you go to the website, which is visitfingerlakes.com. That's visitfingerlakes.com. Not only will you find events and festival information, but if you're looking for more information on area restaurants, wineries, vineyards, even hotel stays and things of that nature, you're going to find that at the website, visitfingerlakes.com. That is visitfingerlakes.com.
Paul Szmal: Carolina, as always, we appreciate it. Thank you very much for joining us.
Carolina Taylor: Thank you so much. It is 822 on FLX Morning.
