The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce has a packed schedule of events this summer, from a golf tournament at Dutch Hollow to a Hawaiian-themed picnic at Prison City North, according to Chamber representative Amy Fuller, who joined the FLX Morning Podcast on May 22.

First up is the Chamber Golf Tournament on June 13 at Dutch Hollow Golf Club. Sponsorships and team registrations are still available. Hole-in-one prizes are set at $10,000 and $7,500, with additional contests for closest to the pin and longest drive. Bronze sponsor is Career, with diamond-level support from Tompkins Community Bank, Lakeside Enterprise, and Lions National Bank. Bearded Sleigh Architects and Engineers and Savannah Bank are hole-in-one sponsors. To register a team or inquire about sponsorships, visit the Chamber’s website or call the Chamber office directly.

Starting June 2, the Chamber will launch a new online raffle featuring a “dinner and a show” package. The prize includes a $100 gift certificate for dinner — redeemable at any restaurant of the winner’s choice — sponsored by Excelis, along with two tickets to a 2025 REV Theatre production, which could include one of several shows following the upcoming run of Jesus Christ Superstar. Raffle tickets will be $10 each or three for $25. The drawing will close at the Chamber’s Business After Five event on June 18.

That Business After Five gathering takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on June 18 at the Owasco Yacht Club, hosted by the OWL Group. The event typically draws 75 to 100 attendees and features door prizes and networking on the club’s lakeside deck. Registration is now open.

On July 22, the Chamber is trying something new: a Hawaiian-themed picnic at Prison City North from 4 to 7 p.m., headlined by Chemung Canal Trust Company. The menu will feature pulled pork prepared with a Hawaiian recipe by a chef with Hawaiian culinary roots, along with cold dishes, rice, fruit trays, and charcuterie boards. A limbo contest is also in the works. Registration details will be announced soon.

Looking further ahead, the Chamber’s Annual Dinner is scheduled for October 8. In addition to the traditional virtual auction, this year’s dinner will include live auction items on-site. Fuller encouraged community members to mark their calendars. For more information or to register for upcoming events, visit the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce website.

Paul Szmal: FLX Morning continues now at 8.15 and I'm joined for the first half of Chamber Thursday by Amy Fuller from the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce. Morning Amy, how are you this morning?

Amy Fuller: Good, in spite of the weather, I'm good.

Paul Szmal: Yeah, I know, it's gray, miserable, icky. I'm hoping that we can get a little bit of a break over the course of Memorial Day weekend.

Amy Fuller: You better talk to the weatherman, I think you need it.

Paul Szmal: I didn't get a chance to say hi, by the way, when we were at the United Way mini-golf tournament. My apologies on that, but I know you were busy working the registration table and helping out there and had a big, big, big turnout for that this year.

Amy Fuller: Yeah, that's always a great event and when they said they were shorthanded a little bit, I said, I'll come in and help out for a while and it was fun. It's just fun to see everybody enjoying themselves and that's such a nice spot for that and everybody seems to support it so well, so kudos to the United Way for continuing to put that event on.

Paul Szmal: Yeah, it seems like that was the last nice weather day we had, too, because it was warm that day.

Amy Fuller: Yes, it was, it was, yes. It was a great turnout, a great event and I enjoyed being a part of it.

Paul Szmal: Let's talk about some of the events that you have coming up, Amy, starting with the Leadership Cayuga graduation.

Amy Fuller: Yes, now that registration is closed for that, but we are going to celebrate the class that's wrapping up. Actually, their last session is tomorrow. They do a tour at Nucor and then Jess will be recruiting starting next week for the next class, which starts up in September. So if you have someone in your business or organization that maybe is new to the area or just needs to get more familiar, contact Jessica and talk to her about what the leadership class is. They meet once a month from September to May and have different sessions every month and it's a great way to get yourself familiar with the area.

Paul Szmal: And learn some good skills, too, I imagine.

Amy Fuller: Yes, yes, learn a lot about board governance and a lot of great things that people forget about when they're working to give back to their community.

Paul Szmal: Yeah, absolutely. And the dinner is sponsored by our friends from Excelis, so we want to give them a shout out as well.

Amy Fuller: Well, that actually is the raffle. We have a raffle. Oh, okay. Yes, I'm sorry. We have a raffle coming up starting June 2nd. This is kind of a new thing we're going to try. It's going to be very similar to our virtual auction. It's going to be all done online. It's dinner and a show. And our friends at Excelis, as you mentioned, sponsored the $100 certificate for dinner and then the Rev Theater gave us two tickets to one of their shows for the 2025 season.

Paul Szmal: Oh, man.

Amy Fuller: So, yeah, it's going to be dinner and a show and it's going to be a raffle that starts June 2nd and then we are going to end it at the Awasco Yacht Club event on the 18th. So watch for that to open up on June 2nd. I believe the tickets are going to be $10 a chance or three for $25, so a great way to go see a nice show and have some dinner and support the Chamber.

Paul Szmal: Now, is that for a specific location or is that just $100 toward the purchase of dinner and you pick your place?

Amy Fuller: You pick your place. We're just going to give $100 and then the two Rev tickets and then you'll contact them to book a show. I think it's near the end of the Jesus Christ Superstar, which is starting up soon, but there's four other shows after that, so great opportunity to go see a show at the Rev, which is always a great way to spend a summer evening.

Paul Szmal: And I imagine there are plenty of restaurants that are Chamber members that you could choose from.

Amy Fuller: Absolutely. You can. Yes, we have a lot of them.

Paul Szmal: Amy Fuller is here from the Keuka County Chamber of Commerce here on FLX Morning. The Chamber Golf Tournament is coming up here sooner rather than later.

Amy Fuller: Yeah, and I hope we get a better day than we're looking at today, but it is. It's at Dutch Hollow on June 13th. We have our bronze sponsor is Courier, and then our diamond members, Tompkins, Community Bank, Lakeside Enterprise, and Lions National Bank. And then we have a couple of hole-in-one sponsors, Beardsley Architects and Engineers, and Savannah Bank. We have some great hole-in-one prizes. One's a $10,000 hole and the other one's a $7,500, so really good prizes. And closest to the pin, Center State CEO and Longest Drive Marker, USA. But we still are taking team registrations. We still have some sponsor opportunities that include your team fee. So give me a call at the Chamber or go online and register for that tournament. It's always a fun day at Dutch Hollow. They do such a great job.

Paul Szmal: Yeah, neat place to play a round of golf as well. The next business after 5, when is that coming up?

Amy Fuller: That is on June 18th. And this is the fourth or fifth year they've done this. It's at the Awasco Yacht Club, hosted by the Owla Group, which helps our lake stay clean. And we always get about 75 to 100 people at this event. And it's a beautiful spot on the lake. They're going to have some great door prizes and some fun things going on. And as I said, that evening we're going to finalize the dinner and a show raffle. So that's from 5 to 630 on June 18th. Registration is now open. So come in and check out the Yacht Club. They got a beautiful deck that's right on the lake, and it's just always an enjoyable evening.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. And anybody from around here who has been here for a while, you say Awasco Lake Yacht Club. And the first response is, yeah, when and where?

Amy Fuller: Mm-hmm.

Paul Szmal: No, they do a great job there. It's beautiful. If you don't have a camp or a house on the lake, you should get some information from the Yacht Club on how you can enhance your summer by going up there and enjoying the water. They have a lifeguarded swimming area, and they have a caterer inside the clubhouse every year. You can get some food. And they host a lot of nice events over the summer with music and things. So it is a great spot on the lake.

Amy Fuller: You are absolutely right.

Paul Szmal: You've got a brand new event that's coming up in July. Tell me all about it.

Amy Fuller: Yeah. We're going to try something new for our summer event. This is going to be on July 22nd. We already have a headline sponsor, Chemung Canal Trust Company, and it's going to be at Prison City North, and we're going to do a Hawaiian-themed picnic. So we're going to have some fun with this. We just met with Prison City North yesterday and finalized the details, but we're going to be opening registration soon. So it should be a fun evening. It's going to be from 4 to 7, and we're going to have some great food. They're going to have some drink specials, and we're going to have some fun games and some music and just a fun way to spend a summer evening.

Paul Szmal: Are they going to cook a pig in the ground with banana leaves? I've never had that. I have to be honest.

Amy Fuller: Oh.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. That's a traditional Hawaiian barbecue cooking a pig over hot coals in the ground covered and wrapped in banana leaves. Really?

Amy Fuller: Yeah. Yeah. No, they're going to do a lot of Hawaiian-themed food. One of their chefs has a Hawaiian background. They're going to do a pulled pork Hawaiian recipe, and they're going to have some cold slaw, and they're going to have some fluffy rice with some Hawaiian stuff in it there, and we're going to have some big fruit trays and charcuterie boards. So it should be a really fun evening. So watch for details when that opens, and hope to see everybody there.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. Definitely. Just don't ask me to hula dance.

Amy Fuller: I think we're going to do a limbo contest, so maybe you should do that.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. It's hard to do the limbo when you're six foot five, but I'll have a bash. Why not?

Amy Fuller: Well, just do the early round when the bar is high.

Paul Szmal: Yeah. There you go. There you go. I'll cheat it a little bit.

Amy Fuller: And then it's not until December, but what we want to do is save the date for the annual chamber dinner. It's October, actually.

Paul Szmal: Oh, I'm sorry. Yes. It's October. It's October.

Amy Fuller: Yes. I want people to save the date, October 8th, and we will be giving details on that as soon as it gets a little further along, but mark your calendars. It's always a wonderful evening, and besides our virtual auction this year, we're going to have some dinner-only auctions at that event that evening. So if you go to the event, you're going to have a great chance to win some good auction prizes and start your Christmas shopping.

Paul Szmal: Oh, there you go. That's a great idea to start it early.

Amy Fuller: There you go.

Paul Szmal: All right. Amy, thanks so much for the information, and one more time, if you want to register a team for the chamber golf tournament that's coming up on June 13th, how do you do that?

Amy Fuller: You go right to the chamber website. It's right on our homepage. You click on it. You can register. If you're in your car and busy, just call me at the chamber. I'll get you all hooked up, and we'll shoot you an invoice. So remember that date, June 13th. It's going to be sunny and warm.

Paul Szmal: Yes. Well, count on it. I won't guarantee it, but count on it.

Amy Fuller: Let's count on it.

Paul Szmal: I like that. There you go. Well, you have a good day, Paul.

Amy Fuller: Thank you so much.

Paul Szmal: All right. Thank you, Amy. Pleasure, as always.
