Walter M. Ovenshire, Sr.

Dundee August 5, 1954 – February 5, 2026 Age 71

Walter M. Ovenshire Sr., 71, of Dundee, New York, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Family and friends are invited to greet one another prior to his memorial service on Saturday, March 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Second Milo Baptist Church, 1800-1978 County Route 30, Penn Yan, NY, with Rev. David Danielson officiating.

Walter was born August 5, 1954, in Penn Yan, NY, the son of the late Morris A. and Mary E. (Crandall) Ovenshire. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1972. On July 17, 1976, he married the former Sally E. Nesbit at Yatesville Methodist Church.

A lifelong resident of the area, Walter worked as a dairy farmer before beginning a 30-year career as a truck driver, starting with Casella Waste Systems and retiring from Lyons Road Trash in Geneva. Even after retirement, he continued to serve as the family’s personal chauffeur.

Walter was a longtime member of Second Milo Baptist Church. He enjoyed collecting eagles and loved spoiling his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Daisy.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sally E. Ovenshire; his son, Walter “Wally” (Courtney) Ovenshire Jr. of Dundee; his daughter, Sandra (Jason) Botts of Farmington, NY; five grandchildren, Morgan (Brandon) Kreidler, Blake Ovenshire, Zane Ovenshire, Ella Ovenshire, and Alexander Botts; two great-granddaughters, Camila and Skylar Kreidler; two sisters, Norva (Don) Wood and Shirley (Steven) Owens; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cherished dog, Daisy.
