Stanley D. "Stosh" Proper
Canandaigua – Stanley D. “Stosh” Proper, age 88, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, May 10, 2026, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean (King) Proper; three children, Pam Keller, Debbie (Mitch) Dean, and Brian Proper; two grandchildren, Hannah and Brandon; two siblings, Lewis Proper and Judy Rapini; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, James David Keller in 2021.
Stosh was born in Shortsville and was the son of George and Gladys (Rice) Proper. He attended Shortsville schools. Stosh worked in the automotive business most of his life, including Farnsworth Chevrolet, Dobbs Service Station, and Vision. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Canandaigua McDonald’s coffee club. Stosh was an avid sports fan and loved the Cleveland Browns.
His family was the most important thing to him. Stosh loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
His memorial mass will be celebrated Friday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Parish, for St. Mary’s Church, 95 N.
