Richard Riesenberger
Richard Riesenberger, age 91, of Naples, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Rich was born on January 1, 1935, in Naples, New York, to the late Frank and Frieda (Schenk) Riesenberger. In his younger years, Rich worked as a delivery truck driver, hauling milk and oil throughout the region. Through hard work and dedication, he later became a vineyard specialist, a career that connected him closely with the land and the community he loved.
Rich was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he had the chance. Baseball was one of his greatest passions. Over the years, he was deeply involved in the sport—playing, coaching, and umpiring for numerous local leagues as well as area high school teams. He was also well known for his love of card games, proudly sharing that he began playing at the remarkable age of three or four. Whether around a card table or on a ball field, Rich loved the camaraderie, competition, and laughter that came with spending time with others.
A dedicated member of his community, Rich was a life member of the Naples Maxfield Hose Fire Company, a member of the Lions Club, and was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Dansville, New York.
In addition to his parents, Rich was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita; his brothers, Karl and Robert Riesenberger; and his sister, Julia Wixom.
Rich is survived by his children: Philipp (Annette) Riesenberger, Susan (Bill Yerdon) Herbert, Carol Pendergraff, Nancy Wilcox, and Rose (David) Meehan. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Baird-Moore Funeral Home in Naples, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Immediately following the service, everyone is welcome to join the family at the Naples VFW, where stories will be shared and food and drinks will be enjoyed in celebration of Rich’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Naples Youth Baseball & Softball Booster, c/o Brianna Battin, 16 Toby Street, Naples, NY 14512.
