Mercurio 'Mike' Dominic Sofo
Mercurio “Mike” D. Sofo Sr., 82, of Auburn, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Auburn Community Hospital.
Mike was a life resident of Auburn. He was born July 10, 1943, to the late Joseph and Micalena (Pronti) Sofo. In his early years, Mike was a well-known bouncer at several bars in the Auburn area. Mike ran his family business, Sofo Amusements, a beloved carnival for several years, traveling all around the United States. While running the show, he was surrounded by his parents, siblings, sons, and countless friends that would grow to be family.
Mike was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He also coached CYO basketball for several years. Mike cherished and adored his family and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by two loving sons: Joseph (Shirley) Sofo Sr. and Mercurio Sofo Jr.; additionally, grandchildren Taylor (Logan) Sofo, Brenden, Austyn, Audrey (Luke), and Joseph Jr.; great-grandson Myles; and sister Theresa Ferguson and brother Joseph A. Sofo Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Roland Sofo.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 15th, from 3-7 PM, all inside Pettigrass Funeral Home. Funeral services Thursday, April 16th, at 11 AM with Father Lou Vasile, at the funeral home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
