Maryann Agnello, born June 12, 1936, in Waterloo, was the daughter of the late Albert and Ida R. (Dematteo) French. She was a proud graduate of Waterloo High School.

Throughout her life, Maryann worked in several well-known local establishments, including The STOP in Waterloo, Rooks Pharmacy, and GTE Sylvania. She later served as a bookkeeper for A&K Roofing, and even after retiring, she continued to give her time and energy working in the kitchen at St. Mary’s School.

Maryann was deeply involved in her community. She served as a Boy Scout Leader and was an active member of the SMS Club. She was also a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Theresa #806, where she served as both Regent and Vice Regent. Her dedication and kindness were recognized with the Antonio Varacalli Community Angel Award, presented on April 11, 2026.

Family was the heart of Maryann’s life. Sunday spaghetti dinners were a cherished tradition, and she never missed a child or grandchild’s sporting or school event. She became lovingly known as the “hot chocolate mother,” always ready with warmth and comfort. Maryann loved to cook—truly cooking for anyone and everyone—and her kitchen was a place of welcome, nourishment, and love. She also enjoyed trips to the casino.

She is survived by her children Sam Agnello, Linda Ferrara, Patricia Agnello, and Joanne (Duane) Riegel; sisters Gloria Glading and Diane Dyson; grandchildren Jessica (Armando) Orellano, Sam Agnello Jr., Carrie (Nic) Robertucci, Pamela (Andrew Tiesi) Ferrara, Barbara and Emily Lewis, and Andrew and Cody (Sarah) Riegel; great-grandchildren Ava Bradford and Quinn, Jakeb, Katie, and Luka Riegel; as well as several cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Maryann was predeceased by her husband, Charles P. Agnello; her sister, Celeste Weston; a great-grandchild, Malina James Riegel; her daughter-in-law, Ann (Palladini) Agnello; and her sons-in-law, David Ferrara and Edward Lewis Jr.

Maryann’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at Geneva General Hospital for the love, care, and support shown to their mother.
