Mary J. Nieporte

Mary J. Nieporte, aged 78, passed away at her home in Naples, Florida on January 26, 2026. She was born on November 20, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Joseph Theodore Nieporte and Vivian Cecil (Deguire) Nieporte.

Mary is survived by her brother Gerald Nieporte, sister Sherri (Joseph) Szybisty, and sister-in-law Ruth Nieporte. She was a cherished aunt to Christopher Prebenda, Jennifer Dupuie, Robert (Dana) Prebenda, Greg Prebenda, Stephanie Schulcz, Michael Nieporte, Dawn Gabrielson, Colleen Garcia, Joseph Nieporte, Andrew (Rebecca) Szybisty, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary is also lovingly remembered by her dear friends, Bill and Peg Poceta. She was preceded in death by her sister Joan (Donald) Prebenda, brothers Ronald Nieporte, Fred (Sandy) Nieporte, and niece Rhonda Nieporte.

Mary was raised in Dearborn, Michigan. She was a graduate of Fordson High School (Class of 1965), and then attended Wayne State University where she graduated with her undergraduate degree in 1969, and later attended Eastern Michigan University where she obtained her Master’s Degree. During her career, Mary worked for the Dearborn Public Schools where she was a devoted physical education teacher and high school counselor. Outside of work, she found joy in camping, hiking, tennis, and bicycling. Mary also dedicated herself for 12 years to an outdoor education program giving kids self-esteem. However, her greatest love was undoubtedly spending quality time with her family, friends, and her loving cats, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.

Mary’s legacy of love, kindness, and warmth will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
