Margery Stack
Margery Herrmann-Stack, 93, of Belle Ave, Auburn, passed away on March 19, 2026, at Auburn Community Hospital.
Born on July 13, 1932, in Auburn, NY, she was the only daughter of Eugene J. and Mildred I. Surber Herrmann. She graduated from St. Alphonsus School and Auburn East High School. Margery was a registered nurse, having graduated from Auburn Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She was employed with Auburn Memorial Hospital for 10 years as a nurse in the operating room and worked for Dr. William J. Simmonds, oral surgeon, for 18 years. In 1988, she retired to care for her mother.
Marge, or "Hermie," as she was known by her many friends, enjoyed doing many kinds of crafts. She built two paper and cardboard clocks, a miniature working merry-go-round, and enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles. She took great pride in her flower gardens, loved golfing, once scoring a hole in one at Seneca Falls, skiing, bowling, and traveling. Marge visited all 50 states, and together with her husband Leo, visited 70 countries and sailed on 19 cruises. In 1991, she visited Antarctica and South America. On a round-the-world tour, she visited the Orient, and while on tour to Vietnam, she was able to be among the first American tourists to visit that country as the ship "Marco Polo" was registered as sailing under the British flag.
She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and of St. Mary's Rosary and Scapular Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Marge is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Leo Stack, and her brother, Eugene.
Calling hours for Marge will be held on Monday, March 23rd from 10 AM - 12 PM in White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn, NY. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home, with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn.
