Newark - Lynne Montgomery, 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Lynne was born the daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Orcutt) Montgomery on Monday, April 8, 1940, in Owego. She was raised in Owego, where she graduated from high school. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Agricultural Tech at Alfred State College, and later received her master's degree in business mathematics from Keuka College.
Lynne devoted many years to her family as a homemaker, raising her daughters. Once they were grown, she began a career with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, serving as a disaster coordinator. In this role, she assisted with relief efforts during many disasters and was involved in response efforts after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Following her time with FEMA, Lynne worked as a substitute teacher and tutor. She also became deeply involved in the wine industry, organizing the American Wine Society national competition and working with wineries throughout New York. She coordinated wine competitions at the New York State Fair for many years, and for wine competitions for many state and county events. She was a member of Women for New York State Wines.
In her free time, Lynne enjoyed playing cards, birdwatching, and playing the piano well into her 80s. She loved to sing and was a member of Sweet Adelines International. She also enjoyed sharing a glass of wine with friends, reading mystery novels, and adored many cat companions during her lifetime. She was also a lifetime Episcopalian and attended church at St. John's Episcopal Church in Sodus, NY.
Lynne will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia Ames and Nadine (Micah) Rosenblum; her grandchildren, Harrison Rosenblum and Artemis Rosenblum; her brother, Philip Montgomery; her nephew, Timothy Montgomery; her niece, Megan Montgomery; and many treasured friends and neighbors.
Lynne was predeceased by the father of her daughters, Fred Ames, in 2022; and by her husband, John Shimonsky, in 2015.
