John James Kopfensteiner (“Mr. K”)

John James Kopfensteiner, 65, of Naples, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. He was born on February 1, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Robert and Garnet Kopfensteiner.

John is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Wendy Kopfensteiner of Naples; his children, Kenny, Chelsea, and Sarah Kopfensteiner; and his stepchildren, Brittany Lawton (Andre), Blake Barthel, and Brooke Barthel. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Lincoln, Kennedy, Pierce, Carter, and Ford, who brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his five brothers: Bobby (Barb), Tommy, Danny (Diane), Jimmy (Beth), and David (Marissa) Kopfensteiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Garnet Kopfensteiner.

For 24 years, John—affectionately known as “Mr. K”—was a beloved teacher with Collier County Public Schools. To his students, he was far more than an educator; he was a mentor, coach, and steady source of encouragement. In addition to his work in the classroom, John dedicated himself to coaching youth sports, leaving a lasting impact both on and off the field. His influence will continue to be felt for generations.

At home, John’s most cherished roles were “Dad” and “Papa.” He was a devoted husband to Wendy and a loving father to Kenny, Chelsea, and Sarah. He embraced Brittany, Blake, and Brooke as his own, creating a close-knit family grounded in love, laughter, and togetherness. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

John had a lifelong passion for the Miami Hurricanes. Game days were a tradition he held dear, filled with enthusiasm, unwavering loyalty, and hopeful anticipation.

Above all, John will be remembered for the quiet yet meaningful ways he touched the lives of others—through his kindness, his encouragement, and his steady presence. He never needed to be the loudest voice in the room to make the greatest impact.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, Florida, on Saturday, April 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

John’s legacy lives on in every family member he loved, every student he inspired, and every life he gently touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
