Janet E. Lathrop

Newark - Janet E. Lathrop, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with her family by her side. Janet was born on Friday, September 26, 1941, in Newark, New York. She spent most of her life in the Newark area and was a graduate of Newark High School. She was a skilled sewer and dedicated her career to working at Hallagan Fine Furniture. In retirement, Janet and her husband moved to North Carolina in 2008. Janet would return in 2024 to live with her son as her health declined.

Janet was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, where she proudly served in many leadership roles. She enjoyed crafting and found great joy in creating. She lovingly made blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for Christmas. Most of all, she loved being with her family.

Janet will be lovingly remembered by her children, Steven Lathrop, William (Kimberly) Lathrop, and Michelle Lathrop; her grandchildren, Steven Lathrop, Felicia Lathrop, Christina Lathrop, Rachael Kurtz, William Lathrop Jr., and Krystal Cormier; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Quentin Lathrop, Trinity, Harmony, Carter, Keegan, Kai, Sawyer, Shavont, Tyree, Quentin Cormier, and Amaya; a brother, John Hamelinck; a sister, Lori (Daniel) Shippers; and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, Mahlon "Butch" Lathrop, in 2009; her siblings, Paul (Linda) Hamelinck and Ray Smith; and her father and stepmother, John (Carolyn) Hamelinck.

All are welcome to join the family at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St, Newark for Janet's memorial service.
