Jane (Urstadt) Wheeler

Canandaigua – Jane (Urstadt) Wheeler, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, while surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda O’Shea and Lorna Wheeler; four grandchildren, Tarah O’Shea (Zain Bassage), Ryan O’Shea, Bryn and Talia Miller; sisters-in-law, Bebb (Wheeler) Stone and Joanne (Winthrop) Urstadt; four nieces, Karen Urstadt Grebin, Sandy Urstadt (Gabe) Wong, Candice Urstadt (Ted) Hoffman and Jessica Roberts; six nephews, Jack Urstadt, David Urstadt (Mary Boylan), Christopher (Kristy) Urstadt, Andrew Urstadt, Eric Urstadt and John Roberts; cousins, Martin (Claudia) Kux and Cathy Saar. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, John A. “Jack” Wheeler in 2024; and two brothers, John G. Urstadt IV in 1966 and Edwin W. Urstadt in 2018.

Jane was born in Canandaigua and was the daughter of George and Lorna (Walker) Urstadt. She attended Canandaigua schools and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1955. Jane earned an associate’s degree from Endicott College in Office Administration. She worked alongside her husband Jack as a ski clothing and equipment sales rep, as well as executive director of the Eastern Winter Sports Rep’s Association. Jane was secretary for the Ontario Children’s Foundation and was part of the nominating committee. She was an active supporter of Planned Parenthood. Jane was a member of the First Congregational Church, Interrogation Club and a founding member of the Lakeland Rovers Outing Club. She enjoyed skiing, golfing, gardening, hiking, traveling and playing mahjong with her friends.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 11 am, at the First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 58 North Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424, or Woodlawn Cemetery, 130 North Pearl St., Canandaigua, NY 14424, or Ontario Children’s Foundation, P.O.
