George E. McMahon
Canandaigua – George E. McMahon, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
He is survived by four children, John McMahon (fiancée, Dana Ingram), Bill (Marcia) McMahon, Susan (Matt) Lemmon, and Tim (Maureen) McMahon; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene McMahon; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian J. McMahon in 2023; daughter, Rosemary Burke in 2020; grandson, Scott A. Waldren in 1987; and four siblings, Patrick, William, Joseph, and Timothy McMahon.
George was born in Canandaigua and was the son of William and Mary (Carey) McMahon. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s School and Canandaigua Academy. George worked on the family farm while growing up and after high school. He then became a licensed barber and worked in Rochester for over 25 years. George was also a part-time carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a thoroughbred horse trainer at Finger Lakes Racetrack for many years, retiring from training in 1979. George remained at the track as a horse drug tester.
He was a life member of St. Mary’s Church. George loved gardening, cooking, canning, and winemaking. He was a “Jack of all trades.”
His funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Canandaigua.
