Gary M. Nye

Gary M. Nye, 64, of Auburn, NY, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Auburn Community Hospital, surrounded by his wife and children.

Gary was born in Cortland, NY, a son of the late Leonard and Phyllis Slater Nye. He was a graduate of Homer High School and had worked as a ride operator for Sofo Amusements of Auburn for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and having a good time with a beer, a bottle of Fireball, and watching the game. There is really no one in the world that wanted to see the New York Giants go to the Super Bowl just one more time.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Darnell Nye; his four children, Gary Nye Jr. (Jessica Collins) of Cortland, Shawna Dailey (Dave) of Moravia, Samantha Nye of Cortland, and Cody Nye of Auburn; 4 grandchildren, Ebony, Olivia, Draeson, and Elena; and 1 great granddaughter, Ella, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services with calling hours will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 3:00-5:00 PM at the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia. We do ask to please not dress fancy. We would like everyone to wear their favorite sports team attire in honor of our dad and his love of football.
