Dennis M. Dunleavy
Dennis M. Dunleavy, 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Gloversville, NY on Sunday (Nov. 30, 2025).
Born in Buffalo, NY to the late James J. and Lovella (Chadderdon) Dunleavy, he graduated from Medaille Academy and Canisius High School, where he was a member of the Westside Rowing Club.
Dennis joined the Marine Corps in 1977 and served at Camp Pendleton in California, where he was a Field Artillery Fire Control Man. Before his honorable discharge as a Corporal, he was awarded a Rifle Expert Badge, a Letter of Commendation, a Good Conduct Medal, and Meritorious Mast.
He attained an associate’s degree from Alfred State College and Corning Community College. After his military service, he attended Canisius College. He had a 35-year career as a railroad signalman for Conrail and CSX Railroads.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Carolyn (Robert) Cady of Wellsville, NY; a brother, James Dunleavy of Hammondsport, NY; a niece, Alice (Joseph) Miller; a nephew, James Cady; and great-nephews, Joseph and Everett Miller.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a niece, Emily Elizabeth Cady.
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 18, 2026) at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery (State Route 54 between Bath, NY and Hammondsport, NY). A reception will follow at the Bishop & DeSanto Family Inn, 33 Main St., Hammondsport, NY.
